The Ancient House

The house was once a blissful home. It had an exceptional view of the ocean that surrounded the island. At the time, a young couple lived there but, as usually happens over our time on Earth, death came somehow. The island felt them, holding hands as they took their last breath. No one knows what happened to their souls after that. In fact, what I can tell you is what everyone knows: the house was home no more. The couple left no children or friends to take care of it. We could see it. We could hear it. Over the first year, the house got darker and quieter like an abandoned child.

As time went by, the beach got smaller for the ocean was claiming his land. What was then called a home sank piece by piece. We could see the sea. The entire Atlantic screamed its rage against the house taking every bit of it with very slow movements of forth and back. I guess the slow pace of its disappearance made sense at the time. The island people needed to grieve. Besides, they were there, watching it as it sank and saying their goodbyes day after day for twenty-five years. First, the water took the house floor. Then, all the furniture and what there was inside. The sea came in through the windows, breaking the glass. It filled the kitchen, the living room, and every other room. Memories were erased as the ancient house submerged. What hurt the most was the couple's bedroom for it was where they loved each other's naked bodies. The waves swallowed the last piece of the chimney - Sarah always wanted a chimney and John always wanted what she wanted - and the ocean finally took the whole house in its greatness.

Sometimes, I get curious about it. Although no one was there when it sank, the house is full of dead bodies now. I do not know whose bodies they are and no one ever dared to say a thing about that. To me, the house is nothing scary, just has some enchantment in its story.

If you pay close attention you can see it still: a big black hole in the bottom of the ocean. Try to put your head underwater (be ready for you will taste the salt) and you will see how dark it is. However, it also has a little bright coming from the inside in different tones of blue. I think the light is the couple's souls dancing. I do not know if souls exist, but I have seen the blue light surrounding the darkness and came to believe it.

If you pay close attention you can hear it still: the couple's laughter.
